A New Seismic Phase to Detect Mid‐Mantle Scatterers

نویسندگان

چکیده

Abstract Small‐scale mid‐mantle heterogeneities (<100 km) are revealed by various short‐period seismic waves with different sampling paths. Here, using dense stations in China, we present the observations of a new phase that arrives as PP precursor. This arrival represents P‐wave scattered at PdpP (“d” indicates depth heterogeneity) and appears two forms: (a) wave train increasing slowness from P/P diff to slowness; (b) single unique between P slowness. Waveform modeling results suggest both types signals can be simultaneously generated lower mantle scatterers scales larger than 20 km, situated close source region. Furthermore, focusing on Fiji‐Tonga earthquakes, locate series 800–1,350 km may related Pacific slab subducting along Tonga‐Kermadec trench.

Phase diagram to design passive scatterers

A phase diagram, defined by the amplitude square and phase of scattering coefficients for absorption cross-section in each individual channel, is introduced as a universal map on the electromagnetic properties for passive scatterers. General physical bounds are naturally revealed based on the intrinsic power conservation in a passive scattering system, entailing power competitions among scatter...

A Business Model to Detect Disease Outbreaks

Introduction: Every year several disease outbreaks, such as influenza-like illnesses (ILI) and other contagious illnesses, impose various costs to public and non-government agencies. Most of these expenses are due to not being ready to handle such disease outbreaks. An appropriate preparation will reduce the expenses. A system that is able to recognize these outbreaks can earn ...

A new approach to detect Life threatening cardiac arrhythmias using Sequential spectrum of Electrocardiogram signals

This study evaluates the discriminative power of sequential spectrum analysis of the short-term electrocardiogram (ECG) time series in separating normal and subjects with life threatening arrhythmias like, ventricular tachycardia/fibrillation (VT/VF). The raw ECG time series is transformed into a series of binary symbols and the binary occupancy or relative distribution of mono-sequences (i.e. ...

A New Approach to Detect Congestive Heart Failure Using Symbolic Dynamics Analysis of Electrocardiogram Signal

The aim of this study is to show that the measures derived from Electrocardiogram (ECG) signals many a time perform better than the same measures obtained from heart rate (HR) signals. A comparison was made to investigate how far the nonlinear symbolic dynamics approach helps to characterize the nonlinear properties of ECG signals and HR signals, and thereby discriminate between normal and cong...

Seismic-Net: A Deep Densely Connected Neural Network to Detect Seismic Events

One of the risks of large-scale geologic carbon sequestration is the potential migration of fluids out of the storage formations. Accurate and fast detection of this fluids migration is not only important but also challenging, due to the large subsurface uncertainty and complex governing physics. Traditional leakage detection and monitoring techniques rely on geophysical observations including ...
